Position Summary: Korro Bio is seeking a motivated and collaborative and exceptionally strong medicinal chemist to work at the Director level within the chemistry organization. Key contributions for this position include building a world-class oligonucleotide medicinal chemistry organization, leading the development of oligonucleotide modality platform chemistries, and helping to establish a pipeline of life-changing therapeutics. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary chemistry team at a growing biotech company at the cutting edge of RNA biology research and will contribute positively to its developing culture. The role will include the potential for significant career growth. This position reports to the Head of Chemistry and will be based in our Cambridge and Woburn, MA locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and drive chemistry efforts and work effectively with a cross-functional chemistry, biology and development team, to advance Korro Bio's oligonucleotide therapeutics platform.
- Build a world-class oligonucleotide medicinal chemistry team and platform, including new lab buildout, to support Korro's drug discovery pipeline.
- Independently lead both internal team and external CRO/CMO partners
- Identify, implement, and develop existing oligonucleotide platform chemistries and develop next-generation chemistry solutions for Korro Bio's novel oligonucleotide therapeutics platform.
- Contribute to multiple projects as a team leader and senior team member.
- Cultivate scientific and technical knowledge through regular review of the scientific literature and conference attendance, and interactions with key opinion leaders.
- Communicate scientific planning, progress and results to Korro's leadership, R&D teams, and external audiences.
- Manage, mentor, and develop junior talent and be actively involved in the interview and selection process for future hires.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD. in Organic Chemistry or related field with 10+ years of experience working in a pharmaceutical / biotechnology setting as a medicinal chemist.
- Demonstrated leadership in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery as evidenced by a strong record of scientific accomplishment and cross-functional collaboration.
- Outstanding synthetic chemistry background and a demonstrated record of aptitude and problem solving in medicinal chemistry.
- Demonstrated experience delivering compounds from hit to IND.
Other Knowledge, Experience or Skills recommended:
- Demonstrable strong publication and patent track-record of scientific excellence in the design and synthesis of bioactive compounds
- A proven background in synthetic medicinal chemistry, particularly related to nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotide chemistry and oligonucleotide bioconjugation methods
- Outstanding scientific leadership, collaboration, and management skills with an integrated view of business and scientific issues
- Experience in young rapidly growing companies
- Passionate about delivering new therapies to patients with devastating diseases.
- Working knowledge of RNA biology and oligonucleotide drug discovery activities
- Possesses exemplary written and oral communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate ideas.
